Developmental Methodology
(DevM) Laboratory

Welcome to the Developmental Methodology (DevM) Lab!

Founded in 2018 by Dr. Fanny-Alexandra Guimond, the DevM Lab explores how parents, peers, and teachers influence the psychosocial development of children and adolescents, with a special focus on body image. Dive into our research to see how we’re shaping the future of child development!

Knowledge Mobilization

Knowledge mobilization is about working together to share and apply research findings in ways that impact people’s lives.

We regularly publish our research in scientific journals and present at conferences. To reach a wider audience, we also share our work with the community through our Facebook and Instagram accounts:

  • Facebook: Developmental Methodology Lab
  • Instagram: @Labo_DevM_Lab

Additionally, we write blogs to discuss our research and its implications.

Our Latest Blogs:

Stay informed with our latest insights and research findings. Our blog posts cover a range of topics to help parents understand and support child development, body image, and well-being.

Peer Influence

We explore how peers affect the emotional, behavioural, and social development of children and teenagers. Peer relationships greatly influence self-esteem and body image, which in turn impact mental health.

Parental Impact

We investigate how parents shape the emotional and behavioural development of children and teenagers. Parental relationships and practices are crucial in forming children’s self-perception and body image, affecting overall mental health.

School and Teachers

We research the role of schools and teachers to understand how they can prevent emotional, behavioural, and social issues in children and teenagers. School environments and teacher support are crucial for promoting a positive body image and academic engagement, which influence overall mental health.

Youth Mental Health

We aim to understand how young people develop mental health issues, especially those related to body image dissatisfaction. Our research also looks into the effects of factors like the COVID-19 pandemic on self-image and well-being.
